Low water at Lake Powell is a sign of a dire situation
Let's keep burning carbon fuels to dry out that lake completely! Utahns are doing more than their share by driving giant gas guzzling SUVs and pickup trucks.
i just don't care. you can come to my place and buy water for a dime a gallon. live with your choices.
St george!!!! is all to blame. selfish shitty mormons!!!!!!!!!
you got to get these boats out of the water onto the trailer before the boats hits the ground and get stucks.
Of that 70% used for Agriculture 50% of it is used by Imperial county in CA, and Yuma county in Arizona, those 2 counties waste more water than all the cities in CA,NV,UT,CO,NM, AZ. combined, just let those 2 counties turn back into a Desert and you will have all the water you need for all the major cities in the Southwest. It was never a good Idea to start farms in the middle of the Desert anyways. The all American Canal could supply all the water needed for southern CA instead of wasting millions of gallons every month on Desert agriculture.
Blame it on systemic racism
Let’s have more immigration, larger population, use more water, that will fix it. Lol. People aren’t considering that over use of water is directly related to constant increase in population. Immigration caused this.
Start cloud seeding
Plant some more grass and build another pool jackasses!
What's going on downstream ya sure the govt isn't letting too much out to save a minnow or a snail or to start their bs of a new national water authority so that we pay at least as much as we do for internet hell they need water more than internet can probably get double eventually triple that lets hear what's happening downstream then I may believe this till then I have to think this has been done deliberately more money for water more money for produce for the govt
Maybe you should reconsider stopping the theft of water at the diversion in Colorado that sends billions of cubic feet of Colorado River water to Highlands Ranch so the homeowners can water their grass. Hmmm?
So what’s behind this? Oh right, it’s not woke to talk about over population. Let’s blame it on something, anything but too many people living in a desert that might be able to support 1/4 of this many. I’m sure open borders will help our situation as well.
Yes . You guys will have to move and get your head out of your ass
Lmfao. Houses being built all over Las Vegas including up on the mountains in henderson and lake mead is slowly disappearing! Fuckin Genius..
More snow than usual this year again. Poor management wont let you blame the universe again, this time.
I'll fix it this year- I have several trips planned to Utah and I can always count on heavy rain when I go to the desert. During my first trip to Utah this year we were in a massive blizzard.
millions of retards living in the desert who are surprised at the lack of water is a sign of a dire situation.
They had plenty of rain 🌧and snow ❄in the mountains ⛰. Water is being sent to Mexico 🇲🇽. Look at Google earth 🌎and follow the rivers and lakes. Sounds like the song.
You are a fucking idiot.
Mitt Romney voted for Joe Biden and the democratic party.
Quit worrying about the stupid fish and save your rain water duh
Never could understand the water shortage in the west. If we have miles and mikes of gas and oil pipelines why not water. I read a article in National Geographic about 25 years ago warning about this. Water has now become a valued commodity. Who ponies up is the question?
you want the people in the mississippi region to give up their water so people who do not respect basic resources can waste it? While having us all pay for it? Smoke another one.
We've come to reley on commercial agriculture for our food, which is bad enough, but we continue to build golf courses that rely on water for recreation, people are idiots
Most of them, yes...
Whiskey is for drinking. Water is for fighting.
They always reduce water levels in order to make room for snow melt runoff. This is not a dire situation, but if you all are worried quit building golf courses and houses downriver. You cannot move to these areas with your lifestyles and then complain. You are part of the problem.
Too many people in the world is the greatest problem. World wide.
Overpopulation is a myth designed to control the sheeple. Everyone in the planet could fit in the city of Jacksonville, FL and still have room to stretch out their arms without touching each other. If everyone in the United States were spread out equally, you would wander around for days without seeing another human.
Omg build a pipe line from the Mississippi River to the west the water in the Mississippi River goes in to the Gulf of Mexico any way ?
Jesus...listen to yourself......reduce the sprawl...respect the resources
Who are you trying to lie to hear Colorado head record snowfalls all that water comes down into like beard and through the Grand Canyon it isn’t all melted yet but once it does it won’t be a problem unless you’re diverting it to some other places like California the bloodsucking state run by godforsaken Democrats
Why is is that we can pump oil from Houston Texas to canada but we cant run a pipe to pump water from the Great lakes to this region?
Mitt Romney voted for Joe Biden.
It's all Biden’s fault now, just look at what he caused in the last 100 days. Perhaps a history lesson in whose administration and what the state legislators did to cause the problem might be appropriate before you comment.
I think they should only let out of lake Powell and lake mead the same amount of water that comes into the two lakes until we start getting back into weter years
IT RAINS EVERYDAY IN OR AND WASH. BUT THEY WANT YOU TO BELIEVE THERE IS NO WATER OUT WEST. LIAR, LIAR PANTS ON FIRE
Yeah yeah yeah but ignore this in million years global warming will kill us all ....
As California destroys America
As long as all the people in California have nice green grass it'll be okay..
it will all come out in the wash
Lake Powell is a wasteful lake. The dry hot climate compiled with the massive surface area creates alot of water evaporation. Keeping the Colorado river within the banks of the Canyon within all the lakes is the best way to appropriate the resource. That means keeping Lake Powell, Lake Mead and Lake Havasu much lower than capacity to keep surface area on all 3 respectively.
What a great day....
Utah is the second driest state in the country. Sadly, water conservation has never been a serious topic for discussion.
Lake Powell is formed by a dam on the Colorado River in Northern Arizona. Little if any of the water from Lake Powell is made available for Utah customers. Las Vegas Valley Water Authority has been trying for years to tap into the aquifer that supplies central, western, and southern Utah with ground water to feed THEIR ever-growing demand for water.
We have the same amount of water now as we ever have. It can’t be created or destroyed just changed from solid, liquid or gas. We don’t have a shortage we have a misappropriation.
It’s fresh water dumbass not just water u must be a teacher
Cailfornias spoiled aholes strike again....
ahahahahahahahahaha now the government losers can ration all your water
Desalination plants take huge amounts of power that wind turbines or solar could never provide only nuclear power could produce that amount what your not being told is the huge advancement in safety and the huge environmental benefits of its technical advancements of said energy because its doesn’t fit the lefts agenda so that info is hugely suppressed, damns could be removed salmon runs easily restored eco systems restored and California fields watered with the new developments of nuclear power but sadly no one exposes the toxic waste of solar panels or wind turbines, Now nuclear power plants can be designed to much more cleanly serve mankind than the so called green energies for a 150 years or longer, ignorance takes up a lot of space
I told them not to do those high volume release events.
Look, if its' use is mostly agriculture, use grey water. Better yet, build pipelines from major cities on the west side of the Mississippi to the desert. Instead of dumping treated municipal water into the river, pump it to the desert. Used for agriculture the desert would bloom and the hydrology would be advantageously enhanced. This plan would also lessen the nutrient overloading of the Gulf of Mexico south of New Orleans. Use you head rather than just the fear lobe! Sewage is 95% water!
They need to stop growing cotton in southern California. Cotton requires a lot of water. It was OK 50 years ago, but not today. Need to rethink what crops are grown here.
And Almonds In Ca.. insane how much water they use.
"Who gets the water"..."Who gets the fuel"..."Who gets the food"... Those with the fattest wallets, of course.
Biden will tell u who gets it
So, ice melting is beneficial for these areas?
Yeah, no such thing as Global warming. And of course Green/ Sustainable Energy is way too expensive.... Yeah. 🤤
Quit geoengineering the weather and let nature do it's thing!
And yet the people that these state's vote for deny climate change. God really does have a sense of humor!
the only consolation for watching our species collapse and end will be seeing and hearing indignant deniers whine and beg their deity to save them as they chase water in their giant SUV's towing personal watercraft.
i thought water levels were going to rise?
@july8xx besides I grew up in ft Myers Florida and visit every year. Water levels there haven't risen yet
@july8xx I said water levels
The ocean levels are rising, you do know the difference between an ocean and a desert don't you.
China is stealing all your water and you don't even know about it. Maybe you can use the new crypto yuan to buy some of your water back lol.
However, California governor Gavin Newsome continues to keep the floodgates open to flush out freshwater out to the ocean to what........maybe try to save some friken baitfish? Were being played people. We the people are below baitfish on the food chain..........
I wonder how many Almond ranches it is feeding...
Or orange groves
I live in Bakersfield, Ca. This place used to be a desert. But, we now have over 400,000 people living and over 700,000 in the area. Vast majority of people living here have grass lawns that needs to be watered multiple times each day. Of course, Bakersfield isn't alone on senseless water usage. When will this city (and others like it) realize the aesthetics of green lawn is hurting our future? We need more zeroscape lawns and even synthetic lawns. Think about places like Palm Springs...
Because eastern transplants are used to greenery. They can’t seem to adapt
@Chasing Dream that is not good at all. I was just at big bear lake and they are about 13 ft lower than normal. That’s unfortunately true I believe
@fx4@llday you're right. Used to even have a ferry service. But, we've pretty much pumped out most of the aquifer. And, our local lakes are below 50% capacity. Our rain total this past year was around 2.5" But, our lawns looks lush. We will learn when it is too late.
I also live in Bakersfield. It was actually a delta/wetlands area fed by the Kern river with major lakes including the now Buena Vista lake which small in comparison to what it used to be. This is why the land is so fertile for crops. It does have an arid dry climate like a desert but man made water systems and diversion and urbanization/development greatly changed the area over the last 150 years into what we now know. But none the less, we do need to watch our water consumption since the state has no desire for massive water projects to help with the situation. I like the idea of drought tolerant front yards and landscaping. I actually think they have a good appeal when done correctly
Banning grass in yards is a good start. Vegas just did this. Should be a law in all the states on the river.
Well, it's the government, the immigrants, it's normal, it's somebody or something else. For me, it's simple, too damn many people using water. This has been coming on for decades. I was reading about it long ago.
... and yet people still have too many kids. We are our own worse enemy.
@Chuck Chambers you said it not me. Your statement is very telling. My statement is a general one. The more children that are born increases the population around the world exponentially. Mother Earth only has a fixed amount of natural resources. Mother Earth doesn't produce hydrogen and oxygen out of nothing.
I just flushed my toilet 3 times and its working fine...
You’re a bad boy
I have a great idea! Howabout a pipeline to St. George? That’ll work out swell.
dad big daddy in D.C. put a stop to that project too.
That would be awesome then Utah could use it's share of the lake because right now Utah doesn't use it hardly at all
Las Vegas Phoenix need to build a desalination plant and fill lake Powell.
@Alan I build a desalination plant in san Diego and run a pipeline of water in the lake. No other way that lake is going to fill again.
Need a local salt water source to desalinate first though, right?
Oh well, that’s why I will never live in a desert.
And agricultural water use that shouldn't be used or the almond billionaires
Bout time lake powell is being drained
What a disgusting comment you should be ashamed
As we now have the technology to pump the water from the ocean cleaned with RO. We can use the wind and sun to power this need. We can pump the water to the lakes now in place and fill them as needed. This will eventually happen so get started now. It is impossible le to use up all the water the Earth has on its surface. An when we reach that point we will have migrated to all other planets and we will begin to cleanup the Earth and protect it as it always should have been. I guess we will have to completely run out of water before we act. We spend trillions daily on non productive ideas and any one of these can move the water where it is needed. The climate has changes in the past and will change as it shows us now. You cannot stop the change. You must adapt. So pump the water from the ocean to the lakes and fill the up with fresh water. I used to make 7 million gallon a day of ultrapure water for one of the semiconductor companies so I know how to clean water it is very easy. It is all about money. If someone thinks they can make money doing it they will otherwise the lake will be a desert soon. Then you will have to act. So rather that showing you have the power to wait use the power to act. It will help everyone and change the entire world once it shows we can help the earth and give back some of what we have taken in vain. We can tax everyone to say we are fixing the problem but install a water line to actually fix the problem. It will create jobs and stabilize the ecosystem. Natives use to live neat lake power 800 to 1200 years ago and moved due to the loss of rain in the area. This is not a new problem that modern man created. It is the cycle of the natural earth. But we have reached a point we can install a pipe to many lakes and make a big difference. Something the ancestors could not do. So there you have it a choice! Not more talk but actual action. Then the news channel could report on success. It would be different if I was saying let build a dam to hold the water from the ocean. But we already built the dam. It is the same ability to build a dam is as to fill it up from the ocean.
Desalination plants are expensive, but California could have dozens now if they weren't reckless. Oh well.
I read that they are working very well in Australia.
Doesn’t San Diego have some?
Cut off Cali ... problem solved.
Lake Powell fluctuates from full to almost empty pretty regularly it's a flood control dam
Don’t build in a desert 🌵
That's just the start when you shut down all the factories demonkkkrats socialist dictators want to destroy all living things by doing away with co2 so all the plants will die then the animals then us
get rid of the golf courses and tell the states to stop building for awhile
In eastern Montana, we play Rez-Golf.. basically it’s golf in the gumbo badlands. Greens are fresh raked gumbo clay.. you just carry a square of AstroTurf with you and hit from that.. ridiculous but it’s still fun.. doesn’t change a good golf swing anyway.
Lol a drop in the bucket compared to Lake Mead’s loss
How about digging a ditch from the ocean from california to lake mead that would solve the water situation quickly. Water that comes to the great lakes are fresh water by the time the water gets there. The salt will be taken out in the soil. The earth is 70 percent water. Let's use some of it so lake powell can be a great place to camp and fish. It would allow lake powell to fill up. And lake mead to fill up as well. And the farms can take all the water they need. It's coming from the ocean anyways filtered by the sand and dirt on its way up to Vegas or where they need water.
but the ice is melting and flooding everything...
is it just me, or does there seem to be one of these "100 year" situations every year?
@victor hopper Are you aware that the government supports most farms through subsidies and that we do export a large amount of food. We produce more food, many times over, than we actually need. We could actually feed the world if it were not for shipping costs and such.
@John M. farms are big because food is too cheap for a small farm to support anyone. its not 1880 anymore.
@toolman thetim yep
@Truth Warrior you have to throw in population growth in Nevada and SOCAL
Its both climate and bad ag practice
KEEP WATERING THOSE EXPENSIVE GREEN LAWNS IN CALI?
That's why the White House is inviting millions more over the border, because there is not enough water for the people already here?
40 million extra people couldn't possibly be flushing toilets or taking baths everyday now could they? I'm sure none wash their clothes or drink water either right. Only some of us think of such things though, but everyone else should be.
My 'beef' is using water to grow food for cows. If you travel the West there are cows everywhere!! Who's eating all this beef??
So lets build more houses and golf courses! That should take care of the drought!
@Lance Block 2 million legal and illegal immigrants every year adds up. time for a no vacancy sign.
Or let more illegals in so there can be more pressure on dwindling resources
@Xavier Gaines No…. ITS CALIFORNIA 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
@Lance Block good one
@Jleed989 i wonder why.....!!?
Turn off Commiefornia. They can stop watering their lawns.
Oh don't worry! Donald tRump, who many people say is smarter than most Scientists, says there is no problem. The drought will just go away!
this is how the grand canyon was formed , where just watching mother nature do it's thing. like we think us humans get to be here for ever lol who are we kidding ..
@Apache Worrier while that is true. what is short in human terms, minutes, hours, days? in earth terms, we are talking years, decades. I'm sure floods contributed and things moved and covered faster than a slow trickle. but not the entire grand canyon. that took much, much longer. Either way, my comment was in response to the op's comment. not an argument on semantics.
@Jollyroger Hobbies Scientists have recently concluded that the Grand Canyon could have formed in a very short period due to torrential rains and rapid receding. This is evident by the abundance of fossils in the area. In order for animals to become fossilized, they have to be covered rapidly, either from heavy flooding, or rapid recession. If they just fall dead on dry ground, they turn to dust. The tsunami that hit Sri Lanka pulled away 40% of the landmass on a few of the islands, in just a minutes time. Nature is a much faster acting force than most of us have been alive to see.
@Jollyroger Hobbies you hit the nail on the head
@Noname and why is that?
@Jollyroger Hobbies you should think about going to college and getting an education
Look up lake level history . It's not much lower than other years .
Remember when Bruce Babbitt let the water flow and flow and flow when he was Secretary of the interior?
The one with the money will get the water.
The question we need to ask is we’re is the water getting pumped to I’d check for any big factors neer by sound like a huge law suit to me if anyone find we’re the water is going won’t be hard to find on google maps lol someone’s gonna owe billions very soon
In the pre-dam days, any drought year would cause bit problems. By damming the rivers, you avoid the drought year problems. But then the guaranteed water supply promotes big growth of population, and increased water usage. And then you get to a point where your water consumption is too high. Combine that with many drought years, and here we are. So the dams got rid of dry-year water shortages, but while less often, the water shortages that result from them will be less frequent but much, much more severe.
@Get Even Just gotta make everything political, don't you? North Korea would be good - no progressive there.
The guy was not joking when he said farms. Look up lake Tulare in Cali. It is not there, it is desert/farmland now. They send food across the US and expect to somehow get the water back. How can you send tons of food, mostly made up of water, and expect the water supply to remain steady?
Stop using any unnecessary water now. We need agriculture more than you need a green lawn
Lake levels reveal horrible management policies of a man made lake
@Franklin Jackson Should just break all the dams and leave the river alone.
@Jleed989 mother nature emptied a man made lake? The lake they show is being diverted. Has absolutely nothing to do with mother nature
By Mother Nature
Good!! That's what you get for destroying an eco system
With the 150 billion California received from Congress recently, maybe they should build a couple of desalination plants🤔
@Get Even add them in
@Jon Stewart there are no minerals in distilled water
@Jon Stewart I agree, but I also believe there should be reason applied here as well, for example, the Salton Sea, a huge health hazard on which the gov spent tens of millions in studying for a couple of decades yet no real action taken. Or the bullet train, it supposed to help the environment yet because of environmental concerns we are not helping the environment?!
@EtTor I believe in environmental studies and concerns as I love the outdoors. But when those concerns are put above human health and happiness I draw the line. I have family in L.A. (San Pedro) which is why I am concerned about this. I used to live there, I am much happier now.
@Jon Stewart Yep, but I do agree that CA does everything slow due to bureaucracy and environmental regulations, even to save the environment.
Consume consume consume
But what about the transgender bathrooms, Don’t we have priority folks. Come on man
How much demand for water has increased during the last 20 years on Lake Powell and the river feeding it?
Farmers waste alote of water
Michigan will trade Arizona ammunition for water. Twenty rounds of 9mm for one pint of water.
I was thinking maybe give them water to grow our food?
Sounds good 🤣🤣👍🏽
Simple never let the outflow exceed the inflow. Works in both financial and water. Even at that rate the level will still drop due to evaporation. Leave the water where it falls. Never barrow on next year, for that is more uncertain than this year. Ps no one benefits from the water in Utah (except recreation). Preserve our water rights here.
tooo many blacks
Liberals don't understand how to balance, or ration anything. All they care about is their needs today. Not about what happens tomorrow!
