Positionally white is doing pretty good. Sometime you gotta overcome the actual analysis mode Stockfish, now that would be a huge feat and ground breaking.

Wait a second, he played stockfish level 8 on lichess which is not the strongest engine, it's very strong but still beatable by a human as you could see. Still is very impressive, but the actual stockfish 13 is currently (and will always be) undefeated by a human

  • The RedWisper

    The RedWisper

    3 muaj më parë

@Ocean Blues on lichess you can choose between different stockfish levels, from 1 to 8, the latter being the most difficult one, but it doesn't mean it actually is stockfish 13 at his maximum potential, indeed if you open the lichess analysis board, which is actually stockfish 13 with its huge calculation power, it would totally annihilate any human being. So even though level 8 is still insanely tough, is nowere near stockfish at its best

  • Ocean Blues

    Ocean Blues

    3 muaj më parë

He did play against Stockfish 13! The "difficulty" was just set to level 8. What that means, I'm not precisely sure, but my gut instinct is that Lichess parametrizes the engine to give it a desired behavior based on the difficulty. Most likely the engine chooses some random moves within some sort of weighted average centipawn loss spread. If you just let the engine select top moves after much computation games would really lack "feel", since the computer would likely always choose the same thing. I suppose this may not quite be the case with neural network models though, since an element of randomness is baked into the process of machine learning but I'm not really an expert on AI lol

@Juho Nieminen thought he was titled, but he could get it if he plays in OTB tournaments and wins against humans for those 3-4 hour games. If he’s expert now like around 2050? Still would need 150 points for NM , that might take winning 10-15 matches in a row depending on the elo of his opponents. Problem is theres a lot of prodigy children or players that play much above their rating when you reach 1800+ , occasionally you get some very tricky moves and players. Preparing for a computer that plays the same way almost from a position is hard too but it’s a different skill. You can play the computer many times but playing the same human opponent is less likely in OTB which makes it much different. Even if someone is a little weaker than him that doesn’t mean he will beat them in an OTB match. He could get tired or get a position he didn’t prepare for.

    2 ditë më parë

@Rattlehead Mustaine No one can beat stockfish without studying because even low rated players study openings, tactics, ideas etc. He discovered and studied this particular opening and memorized the ideas, tactics and certain variations. He didn't just memorize exact move orders as is obvious in this video and his other videos where he beats stockfish. Imo that's impressive.

  • ɥɐou

    3 muaj më parë

@Rattlehead Mustaine not when Stockfish initially says its equal. To be honest just looking at +1,3 that might be a valid point. But first of all, knowing Schrantzes history beating Stockfish in Stafford gambit i.e. you see whats it really about. Also he totally crushed stockfish in a matter of moves. That would not be the case in any other +1,3 position, even with perfect play and would more often than not result in a pawn advantage. If you understand/admit it or not, Stockfish misevaluates certain positions including this one, and thats the point of the video. Yes, if it runs for a 100y it might understand but thats not the point

  • Rattlehead Mustaine

    Rattlehead Mustaine

    3 muaj më parë

no its not about that he takes stockfish depth 8 which shows equal positions memorizes the path to victory that was shown to him by stockfish depth 20 and then ‘ beats’ stockfish. If lets say u will play a position where white hax +1,3 and u will study all the moves u can literally do the same for any position. This video makes no sense at all thats it. On the other hand if he can get a position and then beat the stockfish without studying beforehand i would be more than surprised but that aint no possible

  • ɥɐou

    3 muaj më parë

@Lucas Matsuoca yes sure, but its about proving Stockfish wrong. He of course know, hes not better than Stockfish. All he shows and wants to show is that Stockfish misevaluates certain position. Wether he memorizes the correct moves or comes up with them on the fly doesnt matter. He's playing stockfish from a position Stockfish think is equal but still looses.

  • Lucas Matsuoca

    Lucas Matsuoca

    3 muaj më parë

@ɥɐou the difference is that he already analysed the correct moves, clearly in the video he was trying to remember the correct move order (as he also say it out loud), he memorized all the way to the victory from the startinmg position, is not about the evaluation

  • Matthew Viramontes
    Matthew Viramontes3 muaj më parë

What a bullshitter. First he forces unsound moves on Stockfish like 5...Be7 and 6. Bh4+, then when he starts the position he claims that the eval is 0.0 (which it's not). Yea, at your depth 17 it's 0.0, but by depth 30 it's already +1.0 for White. So you're starting in an advantageous position, and then you don't play a timed game where Stockfish would actually think about its moves, but instead, you choose the option where Stockfish only takes like a few seconds per move. Gtfo of here with your sad attempt to make it seem like you defeated Stockfish under any kind of fair conditions. You're lame.

  • calum

Basically improved Bertin Gambit with d4 in for a cost of a b pawn. Bertin is -0.5/0.6 so against human it has to be around +1.0 and flat out wining xd

Always love new gambits! You ever tried the king's gambit, Rosentreter gambit, testa variation? You sacrifice a knight for a pawn but get a huge lead in development. Stockfish thinks it's dubious, but that's never stopped you before!

This is very similar to various king's gambit lines where black pushes g5 and then takes on nf3, and generally white is doing really well. in fact the McDonnell Gambit name I think is a reference to e4 e5 f4 exf4 nf3 g5, nc3 g4 (as opposed to the more normal Bc4 before Nc3) and then bc4 gxnf3 qxnf3 and whit has an excellent attack. There is also various lines in the related Muzio gambit where the king hides behind the umbrella pawn like that. Again for any human being that likes attacking these are dream lines.

@Marko yeah but I was going to say that the g3 move would never be played in that line. There are no masters games where that has been played, probably because white scores well in the Cunningham at masters level, Kasparov famously spat the dummy when he was forced to play the position as black against short because he thought it was a bad line. However it has been played on lichess, without these initial wing gambit like moves. It scores quite well in all lines but d5. The problem is that the bishop cannot move to a3 without losing a tempo and so when I played it against stockfish, it managed to trade off my light square bishop with a knight which undermines Jonathan’s attack . However even so followings Jonathan’s plan I managed to get to a position with the black pawn on f6 and the knight on g6 and getting my knight to f5 then h6 I was able to get to a perpetual. And the cool thing is that in that position any move but the kh8 hg7 perpetual gets mated . So yeah I now get why he did the weird wing gambit line, but actually I am going to play this without the wing gambit the next time anyone Cunningham defences me

There's this ridiculous game where leela sacs 8 pawns against stockfish and then proceeds to obliterate it.
