Gee Whiz!!&!! In the late 50s’& all through the 60s’, Black men who were fashionable and dressed wore Old Spice. My Daddy wore Old Spice & smoked King Edward’s cigars from the time I was a little girl! Even though there was Brut & Aramis, in the early 70s’, Old Spice still held its own! For me, the fragrance was the ultimate scent of masculinity and back then I loved snuggling up to my boyfriends who wore Old Spice. Shulton was the company that created Old Spice. Talk about longevity, Old Spice was created for women in 1934. It was later introduced for men in 1936. P&G bought Shulton(?when). I think maybe the reason men with fairly dark skin are chosen as the global ambassadors for the fragrance is that strong, spicy fragrances like Old Spice smell better on dark skinned people who don’t have much fat under their epidermis- the blood vessels are closer to the surface of the skin( designed that way so that we may more easily dissipate heat). A French woman perfumer who used to wait on me at Takayashimya(?sp) in NYC explained this to me. Anyway, I love Mr Deon. I didn’t really know his name but just loved watching him on “Blackish” cuz he always reminded me of those boys I knew from my Chicago neighborhood & my Ivy League college who could charm a girl into doing anything cuz they kept you laughing!!&!!
