I'm only halfway into the movie, if the Cohen Brothers or Hitchcock (etc) had picked up this script I'm thinking it would have been a really GREAT movie. This shouldn't have been a silly comedy. This could have a been a fantastic dark, tension-filled thriller!

Yeah, it reminded me of A Simple Plan and also Fargo. It's great, great, great! If anyone hasn't seen A Simple Plan with Billy Bob Thornton, you gotta check it out!

I'm not the biggest Greg Kinnear fan so I came to the comments to see if I should stick around. They didn't give anything away but the comment says its a good one - so here goes...

To say this was inspired by Fargo is a bit of an understatement. Apart from that it's a good enough movie to watch. Unfortunately that was no build up and preparation for what hits YOU over the head like a hammer at the end. I had to rewind it just to catch the details as they were rushed by me like a speeding freight train. Still worth a watch though. You betcha ya!

this is well worth watching.... looks like fargo then does a 180....

this almost works if you keep giving it chances--1st, the references to coen bros fargo is unwise since the writing and plotting aren't even close to fargo and only call attention to shortcomings--2nd big plot dropoff is that kinnear could have turned around and walked out free as soon as the psycho locksmith suddenly killed the neighbor in arkin's livingroom--but 3rd sinks this: the trip to chicago and break-in to violin dealer's--that gets you to 1:10:18...i stopped and have written this because i don't care how the writers plan to wrap this up--it doesn't work and i still have 20 minutes i didn't give it

Greg Kinnear always seems like he's acting to me. As far as the acting in this movie goes, 12 minutes in and it appears that they are trying very hard to hit their mark. I'm just not into cute Midwestern semi-mysteries. Off.

I just wanted to watch a comedy because two sad movies in a row is too much for me. As for this movie, I thought it was funny but in a subtle way and more towards the end...Karma sure is a funny thing.
