I have to disagree. If you say that space expands, giving it a definition whereby a specific geometry or grid is assigned to divide its volume into sections, then mass must also conform to that grid of measurement. But you're saying the opposite. You are defining a realm of existence, one that matter does not have to conform to. Doesn't that strike you as...odd? Mathematics yields an expected result based on repeated observations, but they cannot tell you WHAT is going on, and so you always end up guessing without evidence. Observations can mislead you, no differently then how the observers of the past witnessed ships falling over the edge of the earth - because that's what it looked like to them. At LEAST they had that going for them - the fact that they were describing something they observed the best way they knew how. And yet, scientific observations SCREAM a very round, nonhomogeneic and anisotropic universe, and yet cosmology has fought tooth and nail AGAINST what they were seeing simply because they did not like the implications of it. The flat earthers could even write equations to describe how long it would take for a ship to completely disappear, and from that calculate how fast the water was flowing over the edge, assuming that the ship was not under power, and so on. There are only two differences between cosmology and flat earth theory: one is that cosmologists say that the ocean and every unseen thing inside of it was expanding between the observer and the ship, without that expansion affecting the ship and the observer, so as to yield a measurable result; the other is that where flat earthers claim the earth is flat, cosmologists claim that the UNIVERSE is flat. That's quite convenient, isn't it? It's about as convenient as Lorentz's contraction of length was in the day of Michelson and Morley. Without evidence, the math is meaningless, and at that point it is merely philosophy born from a fantasy. Jussayin. :)

ACTUALLY, I believe something else: The universe is not expanding: atoms and particles are *_shrinking_* - Why? Because *Big Bang* - look at any explosion: it has little specs that get smaller and smaller. The whole universe is just an explosion, and all little bits are slowly dying out.

And if we call object one A and object two B and you C if C become close to A and B relatively you will feel that A and B is becoming more far to each other so what Hubble found is not proof of expanding space and also receiving lights are later doesn’t mean also space is expanding .. maybe space is shrinking and that’s why density become high and light moves slower and also because space is shrinking maybe we are becoming more close to space objects that’s why we feel as if they are becoming fed to each other

I'm surprised to hear that the common explanation for the cosmological redshift is that light itself gets stretched out. I have actually never heard that explanation before. The only one I've ever heard is the one that involves the Doppler shift due to far away galaxies moving away from us due to the expansion of space.

I feel uneasy watching these videos, but then I realize these are all just theories that physicists just use to make their math work while attempting to make sense of smaller observations. One day we may observe something that contradicts these theories, and new ones will be formed to replace them. It's a sort of generalization fallacy where we're making sweeping assumptions about the universe based on what we can see from earth. In the end we're limited by technology and the physical limitations of our bodies' senses from getting the the full picture.

I must confess I was not convinced (or didn't understand) the jump between the cosmic fluid and the non homogeneous situation. How space expands in one situation and not in the other; space expands or does not expand. I see however that when forces apply the bodies may not expand as these forces keep them 'tight'. Still I have a feeling similar to when I heard about the ether, we seem to invent an all filling substance to explain an observation. I always understood space as a reference/mathematical invention to place the observed phenomena, so I find hard to use its expansion to explain anything. Anyway I really appreciate that you add references to you video so anyone can explore the topic by him/herself, that is a very good sign!

I know it's a thought experiment, but am I missing something? Regardless of whether the rocket is transparent or not, how could the outside observers "observe" a photon that isn't moving in a path that ever intersects with any of the observers? Even if we're talking about a stream of photons and the observers are some sort of light detectors, either the external observers are going to have no photons to detect (if the source was a laser aimed at the top of the rocket) or it will be detecting _different_ photons (but from the same source) as the detectors on the rocket. Right?

The last explanation; ie the equivalence between the doplar shift and cosmological red shift needs a better explanation. It appears to be saying that if we find a set of observers so that the direction of their movement is all away from the same point then what is really cosmological redshift from the point of two distant points will appear to be Doppler red shift from the point of view of two near by points. Why? How do you know that cosmological redshift occurs at all and that space time is not just a flat thing with galaxies zipping around like gas molecules in a balloon and your though experiment only works because you picked the right molecules with the right velocities?

If frequency is not an inherent property of the photon, and string theory, then frequency is not an inherent property of string theory which is all about vibration and therefore frequency. So string theory is not based upon the inherent properties of the universe. So string theory does not directly address the root structure of reality.

If the universe is expanding that means it has to be expanding inside of something. So what is the universe expanding inside of? It almost makes me feel like this theory is incorrect. Wouldn't it actually make more sense for everything inside of the universe to be slowly expanding away from eachother inside of an infinite universe? Or are we part of a universe that is part of something much larger in which it is expanding inside of? And if so why are there no theories (I've ever heard of) surrounding this? Because one does not make sense without the other, in my opinion.

So if i am understanding this correctly. Does that mean the idea that in the far far future the universe will have expanded so much that the distance between galaxy clusters is further away from each other that they are outside of their own observable universe is false?

There's one question about red shift and accelerating expansion of the universe that keeps bothering me: Wouldn't observing galaxies billions of light-years away expand faster suggest that the universe was expanding faster billions of years ago? In context of the video, most of the red shift would happen early on, when the universe expansion was accelerating dramatically. Anywhere i looked doesn't seem to address this, or I'm a dummy
