What's ironic is that a lot of ppl didn't like these cars at the time, but they actually raced really good by comparison. Lots of power and mechanical grip was so important. Handling mattered and aero...not so much.

@Ola Adeshina Hamlin and Kyle Busch barely count as by that point the bodies were so twisted that the cars could drive themselves to an extent and they never had to drive the late 80's or 90's cars that were still aerodynamic but not so sealed off that you had to be up on the driving to make them run. Yeah, these new rules have made it worse but I recall NASCAR taking downforce away then adding length on the rear quarterpanels because the drivers "needed" the sideforce. It's going to be interesting to see how the new car shakes out and how the engines work with them too. Maybe it'll be better but these races are so disengaging to me now. Maybe it's just 2020, maybe it's the package, maybe it's all of it.

@David C no its the cars not the drivers because there are drivers who have been in both generations like the Busch brothers, Harvick, Hamlin, Johnson, etc and they can't follow a car into the corner because these cars are so are dominant. Best example was Harvick's on board from last week

Aero push has been around for decades, it's just a generation of drivers who can't do anything about it. They need more power and way less side force.

Pitting is a major dynamic of a nascar race. It needs to be hard.. Thats the turn on.. And as a person that is mechanical. this is the team portion of the TEAM SPORT. If safety is a concern then dump refueling... lug nuts don't catch fire!

@Hippylong Yes, and I see diffusers and splitters on my neighbor's SUV. But anyways that is not my main point. For traditionalism I'll miss lugnuts. But single lugs will provide faster pit stops and maybe prevent the common issue of a loose wheel
